Description
Poinciana is a cross stitch pattern.
An outstandingly beautiful tree is the Madagascar Famboyant, Delonix (Poinciana) regia, a deciduous tree growing to 12-15m (40-50ft) with large feathery leaves on spreading branches. The flowers appear before the foliage (or in some areas at the same time) as brilliant scarlet racemes at the end of the branches. Each bloom has four scarlet petals and a fifth variegated in red and yellow or red and white. It grows widely in the tropics where it can be seen in all its glory at Christmas.
