Mulberry Leaf Cross Stitch Kit by Avlea Folk Embroidery.
The Mulberry Leaf cross stitch folk embroidery kit is an intricate, deeply satisfying design featuring a stylised mulberry leaf motif worked in deep blue and terra cotta, colors that echo the historic silk textiles this pattern pays homage to. The border mirrors along each edge in a way that creates a remarkable use of negative space; it's one of those designs that looks more complex than it stitches. A huge thank you to my friend Rachel sharing this amazing design with me!
The mulberry leaf is an homage to sericulture — silk production — which flourished during the Byzantine Empire and is still practiced in parts of Greece today. This embroidery is truly a connection to a magnificent textile past!
