Scarlet Glory - Pattern Pack Crewel Work Collection by Anna Scott includes the instructions and fabric only.
Skill Level: Intermediate - Beginner
Scarlet Glory features a vibrant, exotic-looking floral pattern. A large flower shape sits in the middle surrounded by sprigs of flowers and foliage that fill the space. The embroidery is stitched using a colour palette of burnt orange, terra cotta and pinks to give it a warm, contemporary appearance.
The embroidery design measures 25cm (10") square.
The embroidery is stitched in 19 shades of Appleton’s crewel wool on ivory Italian linen, using 25 different embroidery stitches to create textures and patterns within the design.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Scarlet Glory is suitable for embroiders with some experience. This is an ideal project if you are familiar with crewel work and are looking to further develop your skills.
Traditional crewel work is a feast of exotic flowers and fanciful foliage - which I really love.
Crewel embroidery was often used to decorate large bed hangings with extravagant floral patterns and I wanted Scarlet Glory to look as if it is perhaps a fragment of a much larger piece. I chose to embroider the design in brilliant shades of colour to give it a more modern look.
The shape and size of the panel is perfect for a square pillow, which is what I did with mine.
