Trammed tapestry canvases have the design stitched, rather than painted, on the canvas with horizontal stitches. The face and hands have already been completed in lovely petit point. You complete the design by stitching over the top of the horizontal stitches with half cross stitch (tent/tapestry stitch) in the same coloured wool. Trammed canvases look as though they are painted with wool. The horizontal stitches give a guide to the shape and colour of the design. Trammed canvases are seen as some of the finest tapestry canvases available. The end result is hard wearing with a lovely full coverage design.
