Description

Count Raggi's Bird of Paradise is a cross stitch pattern.

This magnificent bird inhabits the lowlands of the south-central and eastern parts of Papua New Guinea. Its plumes are much prized and worn as head-dresses by the locals. This practice has been stamped out and it is now highly illegal to remove them from the country. Fortunately, hunting does not seem to have diminished their numbers.

The mating display of the male is spectacular ... the head is lowered and the raised wings are brought together with and audible thump. The great spray of flank-plumes is expanded upwards and backwards and the bird's body vibrates visibly.

If you enjoyed working this design, may I suggest the Greater Bird of Paradise to make a superb pair.
